As a result of operational measures and investigative actions conducted in Tbilisi and in the regions over the past three days, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested 37 people on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of a large number of firearms and ammunition.
As a result of complex investigative actions, based on a judge's ruling, police seized dozens of firearms and ammunition as evidence during the personal searches of the detainees' as well as searches of their residential homes, auxiliary buildings, and vehicles.
Crimes committed envision imprisonment up to 7 years.
The investigation is ongoing under Parts 3 and 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
To ensure public order and safety, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs implement relevant police measures throughout the country on a 24-hour basis.
