Ministry of Internal Affairs Destroyed 450 Kilograms of Narcotics Seized from Illegal Circulation Worth More than 7 Million GEL

Employees of the Forensic-criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs destroyed 450 kilograms of various types of narcotics seized as evidence as a result of investigative and procedural measures conducted at different times throughout Georgia, with a total value of more than 7 million GEL on the so-called black market.

In accordance with the existing legislation, the process of drug destruction, which was carried out in line with contemporary environmental standards, was carried out along with employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of the Standing Commission, and representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office as well as with representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection.

The employees of the Forensic-criminalistics Department destroyed the following narcotics seized from illegal circulation in a special high-temperature oven:

• 2 kilograms of methadone,

• 379 kilograms of cannabis,

• 4,179 grams of heroin,

• 218 grams of cocaine,

• 261 grams of alpha-PVP,

• 95 grams of ketamine,

• 28 grams of clephedrone,

• 707 grams and 755 tablets of “MDMA”,

• 928 tablets of methadone,

• 811 tablets of buprenorphine,

• 1,850 tablets of pregabalin, 256 tablets of tramadol,

• 402 tablets of codeine,

as well as various psychotropic and new psychoactive substances.

It is worth noting that Employees of the Forensic-criminalistics Department permanently conducts destruction procedures of drugs and psychoactive substances seized as evidence quarterly. Before destruction – till the relevant court verdict is issued, drugs seized from illegal circulation are stored in a specially arranged storage facility equipped in accordance with international standards. After the court verdict is issued, they are transferred from the storage facility to the appropriate location, accompanied by patrol police and security police crews, where the drugs are completely burned and destroyed in a high-temperature oven (incinerator) of modern environmental standards.
