Statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

According to initial information from the investigation conducted by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a fire in a commercial building on Tevdore Mghvdli Street in Tbilisi was most likely caused by a malfunction of the electrical wiring.

A review of the video surveillance camera recordings located near the facility shows that the first source of the fire was presumably originated from the electrical wiring.

To determine the exact cause of the incident, an investigation has been launched under Article 187, Part II, Sub-paragraph “A” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to damage or destruction of a object by setting fire.

A report regarding the fire on Tevdore Mghvdli Street in Tbilisi was received today by the Public Safety Command Center 112 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on August 26, early in the morning.

As soon as the report was received, firefighters from the Emergency Situations Management Service arrived at the scene and launched active fire extinguishing works.

Other relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were also mobilized on the scene as well.

There was a risk of the fire spreading to nearby buildings, however firefighters managed to extinguish fire in a timely manner.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.
