As a result of investigative, procedural and operational measures carried out together with the Prosecutor General's Office and the Border Police, the employees of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested 2 persons on charges of abusing their official authority and storage and transportation of excise-free tobacco products committed in group.
The committed crime envisions up to 6 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that B.B., born in 1975- junior inspector of the II mobile group under Land Border Protection Department, Division No. 1 (Batumi) of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, by abusing his official position, together with a citizen in criminal connection with him- J.L., born in 1962, illegally transported 1,200 boxes of excise-free tobacco products of “ZUMERRET” brand to the territory of Georgia, bypassing Sarpi border checkpoint, part of which was stored for further sale in the commercial premises, which was found as evidence as a result of personal search of B.B. and J.L. and search activities held in commercial premises conducted by employees of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The investigation is in progress under Article 200, Part II, Subparagraph “C” and Article 332, Part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
