Employees of the Tbilisi Police Department, Central Criminal Police Department, Patrol Police Department, Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi Police Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational measures and investigative actions carried out over the course of a week, seized illegal firearms and ammunition. Based on a judge's ruling 11 people have been arrested.
For the illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition, as well as for the illegal transfer of firearms across the Georgian customs border, following persons have been arrested: L.Ch., born in 1994, D.Dz., born in 1999, G.Ch., born in 1978, K.G., born in 1987, citizen of the Republic of Turkey B.K., born in 1988. Persons convicted in the past: T.M. born in 1989, A.S. born in 1984, M.M. born in 1961, G.M. born in 1976, Z.K. born in 1981, and R.M. born in 1970, have also been arrested.
Crimes committed envision imprisonments up to 8 years.
As a result of searches of the detainees' personal, residential homes, vehicles, and homestead yards, law enforcement officers seized various types of firearms, ammunition, pistols, revolvers, a hunting rifle, magazines, cartridges, and narcotics.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 214, 236 and 265 of the Criminal Code.
